In Erev Shabbos, we say the following words of King David: “Like rivers they raised, Oh Hashem; like rivers they raised their voice; like rivers they shall raise their destructiveness.” (Tehillim 93) The Radak says this refers to the enemies of Israel. (Artscroll commentary) Three times Dovid Ha Melech repeats the word “rivers.” We will b’ezras Hashem come back to this.
It is quite clear that we are in the countdown to the Geulah Shelemah. I have been mentioning lately the Chofetz Chaim’s predictions that there will be three wars before Moshiach. The Third War, the one which will usher in Moshiach, seems to be connected with Iran and a Midrash says that “the king of Iran will destroy the world.”
My friends, the voice of our enemies is growing ever louder, like a river. Dovid ha Melech says that the roar of the “rivers” becomes louder and louder. In the final mention, the voice is given a name: “destructiveness.”
A law enforcement officer in mid-America said recently that “anti Semitism is becoming normalized.” The tide is rising, the voices are surging ever louder. Soon it will become a worldwide scream directed at us, the Children of Israel. The world is going to blame everything on us. All evil, all corruption, all their troubles, real and imagined, will be thrown on us. Remember what the Chofetz Chaim said about the Second World War? “It will make the first war look like child’s play.” The Third War will make the Third Reich seem like a local conflict. The entire world is about to pounce upon us and there will be no place to run, my friends.
No place. Except up.
This chapter in Tehillim continues, “More than the roar of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, You are mighty on high, Hashem …. Your testimonies … are exceedingly trustworthy.”
There is one sound which is mightier than the roar of our enemies, and that is the Voice of Hashem, our Father and Protector, Who loves His children and will watch over us, especially when the nations come to drown us in their hatred.
My friends, what element fights water? Fire.
Last week I quoted Malachi ha Novi, who says, “Behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the wicked people and all the evildoers will be like straw and that coming day will burn them up, says Hashem, Master of Legions.”
We are now standing before Pesach, the day of our liberation. Mighty events are occurring in this world. The roar against Israel is growing ever louder. This Chapter in Tehillim is said on Erev Shabbos, just before the great and mighty day on which Hashem brings rest to His Children. Once the floodwaters have passed, the world will be swept clean and a New World will dawn.
In the merit of cleaning out our life Erev Pesach, may Hashem clean out this world from the roar of hatred which is being directed against us. “Your testimonies about Your House, the Sacred Dwelling, are exceedingly trustworthy. Oh Hashem, may it be for lengthy days.”
Yes, Hashem, may we see Your Sacred Dwelling, which will soon stand on Har Habayis for ever and ever. Then the roar of our enemies will be replaced by the sweet sound of Leviim singing in the Holy Temple, may we hear it and may we see it soon in our days!
